TRAVELLING TOWARDS POVAZSKA BYSTRICA
If you wish to travel from Žilina to Považská Bystrica, we recommend that you to visit castle Bytčiansky zámok, in which the state archives are located. Lovers of natural beauty should not overlook the interesting rock formations of Súľovské Skaly. Old history can also be seen in the ruins of castle Hričov.
The oldest medieval castle in Slovakia, which is built at the confluence of the rivers Váh and Kysuca, in the 2nd half of the 13th century. This castle showcases the history of Žilina and also provides an example of the interior design of that time. It also showcases a unique Slovak phenomenon called drotárstvo metalwork.
CASTLE BYTČIANSKÝ ZÁMOK
This is one of the Renaissance mansions in Slovakia that retained its original appearance. The building was built between 1571 and 1574 on the foundations of the water castle. At the beginning of the 18th century Juraj Jánošík - Slovak folk hero, served as a soldier in this castle.
WEDDING PALACE IN BYTČA
The Wedding palace in Bytča is part of a famous castle complex and is one of the most important Renaissance monuments in Central Europe. Its facades are richly decorated with painted murals and ornaments with figural and plant motifs around the stone windows and the entrance portals.
TRAVELLING TOWARDS PRIEVIDZA
If you choose to go from Žilina towards Prievidza, you can visit Lietavský castle, the spa town of Rajecké Teplice, the oldest town in Považie - Rajec, a moving wooden picture of Nativity in the pilgrimage village of Rajecká Lesná or admire the interesting architecture of the highest village - Čičmany.
Natural thermal healing spa APHRODITE in Rajecké Teplice is amongst the most famous and beautiful spas in Slovakia. The spa and also part of the city is divided into 2 particular design styles: one in the French and the other in English style. The spa is 14 km from Holiday Inn and the city of Žilina.
TRANSPORT MUSEUM IN RAJECKE TEPLICE
In the Museum of Transport, you will find the most important facts about the history of road, water and rail transport in Slovakia. You will also be able to view the model railroad that encapsulates represents a simplified form of the Žilina railway junctions in the 1920’s.
ARCHITECTURAL MUSEUM IN ČIČMANY - HOUSE No. 42 AND RADEN’S HOUSE
In the museum you can find the one-storey building, Raden’s House. It represents the occupations, folk clothing and folk art of the inhabitants of Čičmany village. In House no. 42 showcases typical housing from the 1920’s.
TRAVELLING TOWARDS MARTIN
If you decide to explore the surroundings of Žilina towards Martin, you will be crossing the valley of Strečnianska úžina. The river Váh meanders all along the ravine and two castles overlook the valley from above. We recommend a cruise on a traditional raft through the Strečnianska úžina ravine, entertained by tales and parts of history as told by the Strečnian raft-men.
The medieval stone castle originated at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. In 1970, the castle was declared a national cultural monument. The exhibition presents the prehistory and history of Strečno castle and the surrounding region. In the crypt of the castle there is a clay copy of the mummy of Countess Žofia Bosniaková, the most famous inhabitant of the castle.
TRAVELLING TOWARDS TERCHOVÁ
If you choose to visit the village of Terchova and the surrounding area, you certainly in for a great treat! In addition to the natural beauty of the youngest national park in the Žilina Region – The Small Fatra Maountains. You can visit the Jánošík and Terchová Museum in Terchová or take a cable car to the summit of Chleb and enjoy the panoramic views from this bird's eye view.
We also recommend visiting Vratna Dolina, 25km from the hotel. It is one of the most visited tourist and ski destinations in Slovakia. It offers a cable car to the summit of Vrátna (740 m) or to Chleb (1,490 m).
